History of the Wildman
The Yakutat Wildman was founded by former Yakutat resident Don Bremner, who wanted to share his love of running with the rest of his community. The race started as a stand alone event, in which folks would travel near and far for the opportunity to run in beautiful Yakutat.
The Wildman has been varying distances (anywhere between 5 and 10K (3.1miles and 6.2 miles), and usually includes a walk or bike option for those who would prefer not to run.
The Wildman has typically been concluded with a catered picnic or barbecue, where all are invited to gather, kick back, relax, and enjoy the rest of the last official day of Tern Fest!

In recent years, the Wildman has been included as a Yakutat Tern Festival event. It has been a great way for festival-goers to tour the community on foot (or on bike!), and to take advantage of Yakutat's typically beautiful late-spring and early-summer weather.
The race course has varied year to year, often taking place in town, where race participants can admire spectacular Monti Bay from the lower road. Racers have also been treated to the varied terrain and vast ocean views seen from the beaches on Ankau, which lie outside of town.
